Fundação Victor Civita Nova Escola Nova Escola - Gestão Escolar Prêmio Victor Civita - Educador Nota 10 Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais

The Victor Civita Foundation

For 25 years, the Victor Civita Foundation (FVC), contributes to the improvement of teaching quality in Brazil, mainly via the development and recognition of the value of Basic Education teachers (Pre-K through 12). Founded in 1985 by Victor Civita, then President of the Abril Group, it has remained faithful to its founder’s dream: to work towards a country with sufficient schools, good teachers, incentives for teaching activities and support material for pedagogical practices.

Its main initiatives are NOVA ESCOLA magazine, GESTÃO ESCOLAR magazine, NOVA ESCOLA website, and the Victor Civita ”Educador Nota 10” Teacher Award - and the Education Week, as well as the Educational Research and Studies Area.

Since 1986, NOVA ESCOLA magazine contributes towards the improvement of the teachers’ classroom work. Every month, it foresees, deals with, and discusses topics of teacher’s interest, describing actual experiences and their most relevant contents, regarding not only Pre-School but also Elementary School. It is Brazil’s largest magazine specialized in Education.

Since 2009 School Directors, Principals and other School Managers have had NOVA ESCOLA GESTÃO ESCOLAR magazine to exclusively address everyday issues of school life. This is a magazine for the School manager, with bi-monthly issues, which has come to support the important work carried out by these professionals, which includes, school activities and legislation issues, and showing them how they can better contribute towards their students’ learning process.

On-line since 1998, NOVA ESCOLA website (www.ne.org.br) is the site
to learn more about school subjects, public policies, and tested and approved classroom activities.

The Victor Civita ”Educador Nota 10” Teacher Award – the most important award within the field of education in Brazil, annually encourages teachers and school managers to send in their projects (about 4 thousand are received every year). During two months, the Foundation analyzes and selects the 11 best projects, for 10 teachers and 1 school manager, which in the month of October – known as the “teacher’s month” in Brazil – are awarded a trophy, as well as a prize in money, in recognition for the excellent work accomplished towards student learning.

In 2009, Victor Civita Foundation created its Educational Research and Studies Area, defining its own research program to deal with the most challenging issues in Basic Education, with a view towards the international best practices. This agenda is developed in a partnership with institutions and renowned researchers within the field of Education, as well as in related areas, who are willing to generate practical recommendations, useful both in schools and within the Brazilian educational system.

Through its initiatives and projects - many of them associated with government, private companies and institutions - FVC has reached Brazilian public schools
in with publications, events, research, and websites, all produced and aimed at one principal goal: to promote better practices for the largest number of teachers, school directors, principals and other professionals in charge of educational processes, so that these practices can be replicated, and in this
way help our children and teenagers to learn more every day.
